On a chilly day in December, the members of 436, their families, and other AFL-CIO affiliated unions spent the morning volunteering at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, where they packed food to be handed out at a quarterly Community Food Distribution. More than 500 plus vehicles were severed on this day before the holiday season.
Established in 1981 and located in Elmira, the Food Bank distributes food and other grocery products to people in need through-out its seven county region. This includes more than 165 member agencies that include food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other hunger relief organizations. This facility provides food to 1 in 4 people in Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.
The next Community Food Drive can be found HERE. They are always looking for volunteers.
